About
Lauren Serafino
Mission
Lo & Jo designs rooms that are honest, thoughtful, and beautiful, and personal to each client. The work pays attention to the details most people overlook. Interiors are Lauren's passion, because a room is a way to express yourself, and it has a real influence on how you feel, mentally and physically.
The “Lo” is me, Lauren.
The “Jo” started with my dog, Georgia, who somewhere along the way simply became Jo Jo, then Jo. No one really thought it through. It was just what came out when Georgia felt like too much to say.
But when it came time to name this business, Jo felt like a no brainer.
Partly because my very loyal shadow of a dog has been next to me through every step of deciding to pursue this…through the fear, the overthinking, the uncertainty, and the very real choice to build something in an industry that is beautiful, competitive, saturated, and hard to break into.
But also because Jo was already part of my story.
Josephine was my grandmother’s name, and she went by Jo. In the 1950s, she started a salon with her sister, which they ran for almost 50 years. She also raised my dad, who would go on to build a business of his own alongside my incredibly talented mother, a fellow creative, and possibly the most relentlessly entrepreneurial person I know.
From my parents, I learned so much of what I know about design, architecture, construction, carpentry, and what it means to care deeply about the details most people overlook.
So Lo & Jo is named for my dog, yes. But it is also named for my grandmother, for my mother, and for the creative, capable, entrepreneurial women who came before me and helped make me who I am.
A woman trying to build something honest, thoughtful, and beautiful. With a little inherited grit, a lot of imagination, and a very good dog at my feet.
A little bit me, a little bit Jo, and a lot of the people who taught me how to see.
If you’re here, thank you. Truly. I can’t wait to keep sharing Lo & Jo with you as it grows.
